Survey ActivitiesThe Survey Section provides specialist technical advice and support relating to land and hydrographic survey activities undertaken on behalf of the Authority on waterways throughout NSW, such as:
NSW Maritime is the consent authority for the definition of MHWM in Sydney Harbour, Botany Bay, Newcastle Harbour and Port Kembla. In this regard applicants/surveyors should contact the Authority’s Survey Manager. Costs incurred by the Authority in providing consent to the definition of MHWM are payable by the applicant. Site Setout SurveysApproval of an application for construction may be subject to the site for the approved structure below MHWM being defined by a NSW Maritime Authority Surveyor prior to commencement of construction. The site setout survey is undertaken to ensure that the proposed structure is located in accordance with the Application for Construction (AFC) approval. Costs incurred by the Authority in undertaking site setout surveys will vary according to the circumstances involved in each application and are payable by the applicant. Work As Executed (WAE)A WAE survey is undertaken by a NSW Maritime Authority Surveyor to determine whether a structure has been built in accordance with the AFC approval. Hydrographic SurveysThe Authority’s surveyors carry out hydrographic surveys of navigable waters including inland waterways, coastal rivers and entrance bars to ensure safe navigation and to support environmental monitoring.
