NAVIGATION WARNING

(Marine Safety Act 1998 s.12)

Manning River, Old Bar

Heavy Siltation in Scotts Creek

November 2011

Vessel operators are advised that due to heavy siltation and the accumulation of migrating shoaling sands, the marked navigation channel in the South Passage of the Manning River, between Kangaroo Point and Cowans Channel at Old Bar (commonly referred to as ‘Bisho’s Corner’), is now very shallow and extremely narrow to navigate and is unsafe for navigation. As a result and in the interests of public safety, a number of temporary navigational markers and warning signs have been installed.

Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) advises that the area is now considered unsafe for navigation on all tides.

RMS advises that extreme caution should be exercised at all times by vessel operators until such time as the area is declared safe, and is again marked as a safe navigable channel.
