(Georges River Bridge), Sylvania
Vessel operators are advised that the waters around “Tom Ugly’s” Southbound and Northbound Bridges (Georges River Bridge) will be partially closed to navigation from 1 December 2009 until 31 October 2012 due to maintenance painting work.
THE OPERATION
A gantry will be suspended from existing monorails on the bridge girders. Two barges will be used to provide materials and equipment to the gantry. Painting works will progress one span at a time.
‘Channel blocked’ day shapes and night lights will be displayed under the spans being painted at any particular time, and the barges will also display the appropriate day shapes and/or navigation lights. (see p55 NSW Maritime Boating Handbook 2008/09)
Lit yellow aqua marks displaying day shapes for channel blocked will be deployed upstream, downstream and between the Southbound and Northbound bridges of the affected span.
Yellow aqua marks displaying ‘4 knots’ and yellow flashing lights will be deployed 150m upstream and 150m downstream of the affected span of the bridge.
Persons operating vessels in the general vicinity of the Barge are advised to keep well clear of the operation, and are reminded of their obligation to;
- maintain vessel speed at no more than 4 knots within 100 metres of floating plant or work in progress;
- keep a proper lookout at all times; and
- keep vessel wash to a minimum so as not to impact the Barge.
