Survey Activities

Survey VesselThe Survey Section provides specialist technical advice and support relating to land and hydrographic survey activities on waterways throughout NSW, such as:

  • Mean High Water Mark (MHWM) Determinations
  • Site Setout Surveys
  • Work as Executed Surveys
  • Hydrographic Surveys
  • Subdivisions

Maritime is the consent authority for the definition of MHWM in Sydney Harbour, Botany Bay, Newcastle Harbour and Port Kembla. Costs incurred by Maritime in providing consent to the definition of MHWM are payable by the applicant.

Site Setout Surveys

Approval of an application for construction may be subject to the site being surveyed by Maritime prior to construction commencing. The site setout survey is undertaken to ensure that the proposed structure is located in accordance with the Application for Construction (AFC) approval. Costs incurred by Maritime in undertaking site setout surveys will vary according to the circumstances involved in each application and are payable by the applicant.

Work As Executed (WAE)

A WAE survey is undertaken by a Maritime Surveyor to determine whether a structure has been built in accordance with the AFC approval. A lease plan is prepared from the WAE survey and included in the lease document. Costs incurred by Maritime in undertaking the WAE surveys are payable by the applicant.

Hydrographic  SurveyHydrographic Surveys

Maritime surveyors carry out hydrographic surveys of navigable waters including inland waterways, coastal rivers and entrance bars to support safe navigation and environmental monitoring.

Subdivisions

Plans of subdivision of Maritime’s land title are prepared in regard to:

  • lease of wetland for a term of more than five years
  • transfer/sale of surplus lands.
