PERMANENT
Navigation Warning - Mooring Buoy - Caltex Terminal
A new permanent mooring buoy is to be installed in the waters of Botany Bay, approximately 500 metres to the north of the Kurnell Oil Refinery wharf. The additional mooring will service tankers and other large commercial ships entering Botany Bay.
The mooring buoy will be positioned to the north of the existing moorings near the location specified below, and will be similar in character. The new mooring buoy will be white in colour and approximately 3 metres in height with a diameter of 4.5 metres. The mooring buoy is to be a permanent installation and is scheduled to be installed on 2 November 2009.
NAVIGATION HAZARD
Vessel operators are warned that a navigation hazard exists around the new mooring buoy, which will be a permanent installation.
LOCATION
The new mooring buoy will be installed at the following location;
Western face of Buoy- 33°59'41.91"S, 151°12'45"E
Eastern face of Buoy- 33°59'42.02"S, 151°12'45.68"E
GENERAL
Vessel operators navigating in the vicinity of the Kurnell Oil Refinery wharf and Caltex Shipping Berth Number 3 are reminded of the relevant provisions of the Marine Safety (General) Regulation 2009, including the requirements to;
- Remain at least 100 m from any wharf or installation used for the shipment, unshipment or storage of any oil, inflammable liquids, dangerous goods or explosives (Clause 21(2)(b))
- Not obstruct or impede the launching or securing of a vessel or the handling of cargo (Clause 17)
- Not obstruct the approach to, or restrict or impede the use of any wharf, jetty or landing place (Clause 16(b))
Maximum Court imposed penalties of $5,500.00 apply
